My husband and I will be moving from Illinois to Phoenix this summer. I have some family in the Coronado Historic District and he already has a job lined up. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on places to live. We'd like to stay as close to Coronado as possible. Ive been looking at different rentals like Brick Commons, Zuzu panee, and Aresio City Lofts but its pretty hard to get an impression for a community from websites. We're hoping not to spend more than $1000 a month on rent. I was originally interested in renting a house but haven't had a lot of luck finding anything available for mid July. We are young, professionals looking for any advice anyone might have on this...or other Phoenix related stuff.

Thank you so much!

If you want to avoid spending more than $1000/month then you need to avoid anything followed by the word "loft." Coronado is a nice area and you're right in Central Phoenix which is a fairly diverse area with decent night life and quaint little shops and very good eateries nearby. There are plenty of nice apartment complexes with nice amenities within 10 min of Coronado where you could definitely find something in the $800-$900 range. Trulia is a great app for house/apartment hunting.

Just curious, but where in central Illinois are you from? I moved here from Urbana almost 2 years ago now after living there for 13 years. It's a total lifestyle change, but I love it.

Coronado is an up and coming area, but there aren't really any apartment IN the neighborhood, per se. You're best bet is to look just west of there between there and downtown. You'll still be close to light rail and as long as you aren't right in middle of downtown you could find something in your price range. I agree with above poster that you aren't going to afford a loft in that price range, though, unless you find one off blind luck that someone is desperate to sublet on Craig's List or something.
