we will be arriving in the valley around the first week of October. just wanting some general opinions on the midtown area around central and south of camelback. It seems to be nice online, but a real life perspective would help me out. thanks.

It's a nice area, with access to the light rail, etc. Only one grocery store along Central, and a high end one at that. Other grocery stores are not far, though. Depends on what you want to be close to, and, as always, where you are working.

If you are looking for an apartment I had a property manager give me this advice about the area. There are a number of small garden style complexes in the area and many never advertise openings online. So she told me to drive or park my car and just start walking around to see if I could find any "for rent" signs. The area between Central and 7th Street seemed to have a lot these apartments.

I would think the area around Park Central (between Central & 7th Avenue) would have these styles of complexes as well. As for Midtown in general (also known as Uptown or the Central Corridor), it's very much like a secondary downtown area of Phoenix, mainly because of the highrise office buildings & how busy it is during the day. It tends to be rather dead at night, but it's definitely not an unsafe area.
