Maricopa County Annual Business Strategies FY 2012 Adopted Budget Transmittal Letter

On the law enforcement side, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is funded primarily
with general fund revenues. While general fund revenues continue to be depressed, the need
for law enforcement services and the budget for these services is uncertain. In the spring
of 2011 it was discovered that MCSO misspent restricted detention and inmate services funds to
supplement enforcement staffing. The current unaudited estimate of this misspending, which
dates back to 2004, is $99.5 million.
So in your opinion not spending the money on such inmate services such as A/C, cable tv and other un-neccessary items and spending it instead on enforcement means its mis-spent....I think most would disagree with you on that.

Keep them in pink and sweating in the heat....if you can't do the time then don't do the crime.

Every sheriff and law enforcement has multi million dollar judgements against them and horrendous legal bills....doesn't mean they are doing a bad job....well worth the cost in keeping law and order under control.

Keep up the good work Joe

Why does Joe Arpaio keep getting re-elected?
Because he does the job he is elected to do.

Because people in Phoenix love to see their Sheriff on TV all the time. It's like reality tv that the taxpayers fund. YAY!

I wish we had a guy like him here in Maryland. The crime here is ridiculous because no one is armed so if everyone knows your not armed, what is going to stop them from robbing you? Joe is awesome and the people that don't back him are ridiculous. He is preventing the drug cartels from coming in the country that try to get your kids hooked to drugs. Whats wrong with that? Why do the left wingers want to support the illegals so much? What have they done to make it in this country that they deserve to live here and get everything we have had to work hard for, for free? If you don't like joe and the way he does things than feel free to go somewhere else. Its not that hard, you have a lot more choices out there.

Where do you out of staters get this from? Arpaio has very little jurisdictional authority in AZ and his deputies are rarely involved in crime prevention or typical police work. We have city police that deal with the bad guys in all of the populated areas. Arpaio contracts with some small towns, covers the undeveloped area, and some of the retirement communities. His main job is to run the jails and transport prisoners to and from the courts.

They also need to look at a map and see where Maricopa County actually is. Shurf Joe's jurisdiction does not touch the Mexican border, its nowhere near it. He's not stopping anything from coming into the country.

I was determined to have an open mind about him when I moved here, but the Birther fiasco, the lawsuits, the deaths in the jails, all took a toll. The last straw was allowing movie actors to "train" his personnel on how to handle a gunman in our schools.

I'm all for a law-and-order sheriff who doesn't coddle criminals. I'm not in favor of a grandstanding politician who likes being in the national limelight, allows mistreatment of inmates who haven't even gone to trial yet, wastes taxpayer resources on foolish "investigations" to Hawaii, uses his law enforcement powers to intimidate other government officials, misuses funds, claims he has no responsibility for how his "posses" handle their finances, and fails to adequately investigate crimes when they actually are in his jurisdiction. And I've only lived here 14 months!

For those who don't like what Joe is doing I can point you to the direct opposite affect of having a policy opposite of Joe's.....Chicago....interesting isn't that all the Mexican cartel killing going on in Chicago....one would think it would be worse in Phoenix....not a coincidence its not....thank you Joe.

Chicago has something like twice the population of Phoenix. And Phoenix is policed by the Phoenix PD, not MCSO, so thank you Chief Garcia.

I would think by saying Phoenix most would know we are talking metro area......but hey..to each their own....you never know how good you have it until you see what the opposite would bring you.

As long as Joe keep's a handle on crime...we will keep spending our money in "the phoenix" area.
