In a few months we will have more grapefruit than I can eat. Is there any organization that will pick them and take them away? Everyone we know is on meds and can't eat them or has their own tree.

Join your local Freecycle online and offer your crop to whoever will come and pick them. I have seen many people give away excess fruits this way in this area and I had gotten some this way myself. It benefits both party.

Or get neighborhood kids to pick them and then take them to the local food bank.

We had a mango tree before it died in our front yard, and I would always catch people sneaking up to take some. Dogs would always bark and catch them.

In the paper last year it said one of the food banks will take all they can get. Forget which one, but start with the biggest and if they don't they'll probably know who will.

I agree with southernbelleinutah, more and more people are donating food, fruits and veggies to the local food pantries/food banks. Your pesky grapefruit may be someone elses delicious treat!

Put up an ad on craigsilst, they'll be gone in days! I'll take some off your hands, I usually eat grapefruits for breakfast every now and then.

St Mary's Food Bank is one of the organizations in Phoenix who will schedule a crew to pick fruit trees; contact the Community Relations Department at (602) 242-FOOD (3663) or communityrelations@firstfoodbank.org to schedule the crew. Good luck w/ your crop!
