I just moved here a few months ago and I'm still exploring the local flavor. I'm looking for a Fire+Ice style restaurant, if you're unfamiliar with them they are one of those "improvisational grills" that focuses on American cuisine. You go up to a buffet, grab all the ingredients you want, grab a cup full of sauce and they cook it on a big circular grill.

I know there's some Mongolian Grills but I wanted somewhere with a bigger variety. Can anyone recommend one in the Phoenix (preferably central/downtown) area that might be worth checking out?

I've heard of both YC's and Ghengis Grill but how is the selection? I've been to a mongolian grill out in NC and while they had a lot of spices, there were almost no veggies and only 2-3 sauces.

I didn't care for the YC's Mongolian. It was a bit of a letdown after being used to BD's Mongolians back east.

Been planning on trying the Ghengis Grill but haven't yet. I would be interested to hear a review of that one.

It's not the same concept, but a place that allows you to pick and combine a lot of diverse ingredients and then makes it for you, in their case in bowls, burritos and quesadillas, is Chino Bandido, which you might find interesting.

I have never heard them called Fire & Ice before. Where I moved from we had Hu Hot Mongolian grill. Is that the kind of thing you want? Because I would like to find that here too

Fire and Ice is fantastic. We went to the one in Providence when we lived in CT. I haven't seen anything like it here.

I always liked BD's back in MI. They were everywhere there and always fit the bill for a cheap, casual meal. I've actually never been to YC's nor GG but I think they're the same, in concept at least.

Can't speak for YC's but Genghis Grill has over ten meat/seafood options, probably 20+ veggie options, 10+ spices, and 10+ sauces. Then there are like 6 starch options and you can add an egg in there too! Their selection is fabulous and the food is delicious!
