Hi all,

I am considering buying a new house, and need a fenced in yard for my dog. Some of the houses in the Active Adult Community where I'm looking have 'partial' wrought iron fences, like the one in the attached photo.

I am trying to get a ballpark idea of what it would cost to extend the wrought iron fence shown toward the front of the house about 15-20 feet, and add a simple gate.

Since I don't own the house, I don't think I can have a contractor come out to bid the job.

I an trying to get an idea of the costs of the fence work before I commit to the house.

TIA for your input!

I would imagine you could get a "ballpark" by calling some of the fence companies and giving them the length and the height, with a standard walk-through gate.

Hi Paul: What does the HOA say about this plan? Alot of the retirement communities have strict rules, especially about fences. I would be sure you are able to do this before proceeding. Because of the fence limitations in some communities, I have stayed where I am (Ocotillo) because of my dogs.

Excellent point. The C C and Rs are available for you to read, ask the agent listing the house.

Thanks for the HOA approval tip. I have thought about that, and it is certainly something that I'll follow up on when I select a community. We're looking at a couple of areas (Trilogy in Gilbert and Solera in Chandler) and both communities have some houses with fully fenced in back yards, some with partial fences, and some properties that aren't fenced at all.

When I look at the communities using Google Earth, I don't see any rhyme or reason as to why some houses are fenced and some are not. Maybe it was based on the preferences of the original home buyer?
