I am torn. I have a Hospital job offer in Phoenix paying $92K (maybe 95 if they accept my counter offer) and a job in the suburb of San Francisco, also in the Hospital, paying $145K. Both jobs have full benefits. We do live in the Bay Area. Any thoughts or comments? Should I pull a trigger and move or should I stay. Please let me know. Thanks

You will likely be better off financially here but the Bay Area is such a great place. It depends on what you like to do and where you want to be. Financially, you should be able to pull off either with relative comfort.

Ehhh I think I would stay in the Bay Area. You didn't say if you were single or had a family (but you said "we" so I assume you're married) but if I was single making that salary I most certainly would stay put in the Bay Area. Single or not though as expensive as the Bay Area is you definitely won't be in the poor house on $145K. If you want a change and I mean A REAL CHANGE then sure give the Phoenix area a try. You will definitely be living pretty comfortable on $92K.

45 K differnce a year, say you work 30 years, that is 1.500.000 less... That pays for a nice home anywhere. The bay area is weather wise nicer, but a tad busy...

Except that it likely won't be saved due to a significantly higher cost of living.

Dude Seriously $92,000 a year in Phoenix. You could live "sick" in Phoenix for that amount of $$$$$$$. And I mean "sick" in a good way! Please believe.

My job brings me to Corona often, and food is for some reason cheap in CA, might be because so many grocery chains out there. Restaurants are decent priced.
Taxes are another thing.....

I'd be jumping on that 92k in a heartbeat. The extra 50k doesn't make up for rent and home prices that are triple or more per square foot. $60k wouldn't get me squat here in the bay, but $60k would have me pretty cozy in Phoenix. So an extra 32k-35k on top of that is just gravy.
