This looks like a good place to ask. I plan on moving to Tempe after I finish university and work at the Marina Heights facility(intern with the company, graduating near expected completion date). Would W6 be a good place to live for someone who is no longer a student and works a 8-4? What other high rises would I be able to commute to and have a reasonable rent?

You want to live in a high rise? What is your rental budget?

W6 can get a little crazy with the parties.

The budget would be around $1500 tops, for a 1 bedroom for 2 people. I would like a place close to Mill Ave, but having a place in a high rise someplace else, maybe in Phoenix would be ok.

And since this has been made into it's own thread, has anyone made the move from Bloomington already? The main thing that I am worried about moving to Phoenix would be the traffic getting from my place to work.

Are you considering Phoenix because it has a light rail link to Tempe and you won't have a car? If not, I would consider Downtown Tempe and Old Town Scottsdale before Downtown Phoenix. As much as they try, Phoenix cannot compete with Scottsdale and Tempe as a vibrant downtown.

There's not a ton of "high rise" rentals. Much of what you see in Tempe that is high rise is designated student housing. If you do a google search for "downtown tempe loft/condo rentals", same for scottsdale, you'll find some options. These are typically 5-6 story building, not high rise and for the most part they are not apartments, so you would be renting a condo from the owner. Some that come to mind in Tempe are Hayden Ferry Lakeside, Orchidhouse Lofts, The Vale, Millstone, 525 Town Lake, etc. Then there's more of the 2-3 story condo's such as Hayden Square Tempe, Regatta Pointe, etc. I can't link to a site but you should be able to find much more using those names.

I'll have a car. I just have always wanted to live high up in a building and Ihave never really lived in a nice place. It seems that right after I'm done with school, before any kids, would be the best time to live in a really nice place.

I'd be open to a place that isn't a high rise if it was a loft(actual lofts, not just a place with lofts in there name).
