Just wondering if scorpions are similar to ants, in that the higher the floor you live on, the less of a threat they are due to height.

I understand if you live in a single family home that back to a desert nearby they can just stroll right in. But what about living in a high rise condo in the middle of the city in Phoenix?

I'm thinking there are probably zero scorpions in high rise condos in downtown Phoenix. Not that there's that many choices of condos though.

Oh no, not another scorpion thread.

Scorpions are pretty limited in number and really aren't a big deal to worry about unless you go looking for them.

I would imagine they are even less common in the denser urban areas and condominiums.

In all my years living here I have never seen a single scorpion

Can scorpions actually climb stairs or walls to get to a 2nd story apartment?

Not true, it's all about location. We deal with quite a few. Not counting, but we've had at least 5 sightings this season and it's just started. Everyone in my household except for me has been stung, some more than once.

They suck and are difficult to get rid of. I do not know definitively, but would wager that the answer to the OP's question is yes, there are most likely less in the higher floors. They live in the ground and don't hide very well in daylight so I'd expect very few on 3rd floors and higher even in territory where they are prevalent.

I'm not sure but I think 2nd floor apartments might still be a risk because scorpions can certainly climb walls in a single family home up to the 2nd floor. Sort of how ants can get to there also.

But maybe if the apartment was really high up and in a densely urban area, not close to a desert, I imagine there are limits to how high they can climb. Or that may be just wishful thinking.

I've killed many on walls, both inside and out. Those are the easy ones.

Is there a reason why you guys were stung? Do they do that as a defensive measure when you try to kill it? Or is there a risk of getting stung when you're just laying there at night sleeping?

This is the stuff of nightmares! Considering picking up a winter condo there but if there's no way to avoid scorpions, I'm going to buy elsewhere. Kind of drastic I know, but scorpions are seriously terrifying for those of us who have not lived in arizona before and have never seen one.

I'm just going by my own experience.

I have been in the Phoenix area almost two decades, lived in Chandler and Avondale, and been in many other parts of the valley. In all that time I never came across a single scorpion.

Maybe you're right in that it depends on location but I think the fear of scorpions and many other creepy-crawlies is a little overblown.

Most of us that moved from elsewhere had never seen a scorpion before moving here. It's a mild inconvenience at best and even if you do have them on your property, they're controllable. It's hardly a reason to miss out on everything else that AZ has to offer.
