Looks like Spourts is moving it's HQ from Tatum/Cactus to High Street in the CityNorth development at 56th St and Deer Valley. It's good that they are staying in Phoenix but man what a missed opportunity for Phoenix to have this in downtown. Would have been great to add a new HQ and also a grocery store there...guess they probably couldn't compete with the lease/build prices that CityNorth probably offered them.

Downtown couldn't compete with the illegal sales tax deal the city gave to the developer to put in the parking garage.

And putting the office downtown would have made a fair number of employees bolt. They live in N. Scottsdale, Cave Creek, etc. and wouldn't consider the commute downtown. (I know a few of them.)

Also I had no idea their HQ was in that store at Tatum and Cactus. I've never been in the store but it looks like a typical store from the outside, not one with a big office space hidden in there somewhere.

It may not be where you're thinking. That store is on the NE corner of Cactus and Tatum but the HQ in in an office building on the SE corner...actually it's more like Paradise Village Pwky and Tatum.

Oh that makes more sense.

Explain please. The sales taxes in Phoenix should be uniform across the city. Downtown facilities in fact often get a break on property taxes to encourage development.

Yes and that is fine according to the AZ Supreme Court, as long as the benefits are equal to the tax breaks. The problem with the CityNorth deal is they agreed to pay up to $97 Million in sales tax rebates for 200 park and ride spots. The developer would have built that garage even without that subsidy, the land was too valuable to cover in a parking lot.

yes, but they bailed when CityNorth started to fail as the boom turned bust.....

I'm curious if there was some incentive program to bring Sprouts up there....
