Depending on what type of service you have is what there soft cap is set at, it starts at 50GB for their Starter 1 Mbps internet and goes up to 400GB for their Ultimate 150 Mbps plan. I have Premier which has a cap of 300GB, I go over it fairly often as I have Apple TV, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Google Chromecast, 5 phones, 4 tablets, 8 computers and lots of other misc devices that all use wifi. I use Dropbox, Steam and my work computer backup that uses a lot of data. I have never had a problem except for an occasional letter.

You can check your data usage at any time by logging into your Cox account and looking at the data usage meter:
Data Plan FAQs

Here's mine:

You can set NetFlix to stream at a lower resolution which will cut way down on data usage:

You can see all the Cox plans and caps here, don't know what plan you have now but you might consider moving a level up.

If you want unlimited data just get a business account, there are no caps and no throttling and you keep preferential support and a better modem. I had one for years with Comcast and it was great, it costs a bit more than the traditional cable plans but its usually worth it if you want to use a lot of data and not have to worry about caps.

On a semi-related topic Dropbox just increased their space allocation from 100GB to 1TB without any price increases. I've been using it for years and love Dropbox.

And here's typical results if you have the 20 Mbps package from Centurylink (Like I have at work and used to have at home). Never comes close to speed you pay from and the upload speeds.. OMG.

For you guys that have the Asus RT-N66U I highly recommend upgrading to the MERLIN custom firmware which is based on the original Asus firmware but with many cool enhancements. It's 100% compatible and super easy to install unlike DD-WRT. The one real cool thing I like is I can now monitor all my traffic by user device (IP) so I can see exactly what devices are using the most bandwidth. Installation was a snap just download the firmware select it in the Asus firmware update UI and that's it. You can revert back to the original firmware any time you want.

I don't use so much data that I would need a business plan, but after measuring data usage, I discovered I might tap the limit. It's good to see that the soft cap is verified. It's funny because the contractor for end2end had no clue about the cox service beyond drilling a hole in my wall.

I like the bump up in upload speeds from the classic 1mbps too. It's funny because when I first got DSL service back in the late 90s, I was getting a smoking 1 mbps down . lol
