That sucks! We 'had' Haggen here in Portland, OR until they all closed shop. Way overpriced in comparison and highly disorganized.

I lived in Southern WA and shopped at Winco; it was my favourite store. Great prices and almost always great interaction with the employees, who are also Shareholders in the company. I think this makes a substantial difference in the work ethic.

Then I moved to California and the nearest Winco's is 1.5 hours away...

It's pronounced Hay-gun. Their store are really nice & I liked shopping there, but could only go about once a month because they are pricy, for my budget anyway. But they are very tidy and neat with a good layout and their customer service is the best I've ever had in a grocery store.

Who cares about Safeway. Overpriced, underwhelming sales, and checkout takes forever.

Now if Fry's and Sprouts start closing down then that would suck.Sprouts has amazing deals on produce without fail year round. Fry's also tends to have a couple good deals on fruits/veggies every week. I saw Pineapples are less than a buck a piece this week.

And Safeway has milk for 1.97 a gallon this week. It all depends on what's on sale where.

kinda funny how grocery stores vary by region. Here in Portland Safeway is by far the best value. Winco is white trash central and is gross even going in there. Albertsons is a rip-off. Whole Foods and New Seasons are really spendy but obviously specialty grocers. Frys is non-existent.

Fry's is Kroger. It goes by a lot of names. I was surprised when my gas discounts from Frys were good at Fred Meyer in Alaska when I visited a few years ago.
