In anticipation of many New Englanders coming here for the Super Bowl, the Boston Globe sent a travel writer to Phoenix to explore things to do in the city. He seems surprised to have found far more attractive things here than he expected. His summation included this observation, "I realized that maybe my initial reaction to Phoenix was a bit harsh."

Those of you with younger visitors who don't know what to do with them should read this to get ideas of what people who don't want to hike or sit around a pool all day might like to do while they are here.

What to do in Phoenix — other than watch the Super Bowl - Travel - The Boston Globe

A decent enough write up, but I just wanna know how both the journalist and the editor missed "cactuses" in that article. I mean, really?

I liked the article. It shed a good light on the city and some cool things that are going on outside of the strip malls and stucco boxes. Thanks for sharing.

I guess faulty pluralization is one of the many drawbacks of taking Greek & Latin out of school curricula these days. (just joking)

Just illustrates what we tell people on this board all the time. What attractions you find around you all depends on what section of the Valley you are in. If you are in Suburbia...you are going to find chain restaurants and big box stores. Seek out cool things to do/see/eat you will find it.

Yes, if you're in suburbia in DC or Milwaukee or Atlanta, you'll find big box stores and chain restaurants there, too. Even Boston, in case the author hasn't noticed.

The author admitted he was looking for "hipster" things, so I guess we can conclude that Scottsdale isn't for hipsters.

ha....definitely not!....so damn refreshing to read an article on "what to do in the valley" and not see the author immediately refer to the Scottsdale scene.....
