My wife use to live in those apartments back when we were dating. Always some sketchy people running around there. I lived just west down baseline near Hardy and my roommates car was stolen twice and mine was vandalized. Someone also, burnt down condos being built right there. I think it's one of the worse areas of Tempe.

Drug deal, they think. No place is immune to that sort of thing. There was a home (apartment) invasion south of there a year or two ago.

Wow, you'd almost think this was a big city with big city issues! It's odd how in a county of more than 4 million people feel the need to highlight every shooting, stabbing, or street fight as if this was some 200 person Mayberry like village. A lot comes with more people, like more crime. I sympathize with the innocent victims, but to act as though the Phoenix area is turning into some war zone because of a few shootings and stabbings in crazy. This area has had crime since it was inhabited by people. In a county that has a similar population as the city of Los Angeles, we shouldn't be surprised that we have similar crime issues.

I think the motivation to posting this was from the discussion on the Coyotes thread, Ponderosa was locked in a West Valley vs East Valley battle.

When I was growing up, that used to be not so bad of an area, as long as you stayed on the Tempe side of Priest. I used to be a member of the old Beauvais gym there on Southern. It started getting shadier once you moved toward 48th street. Later, as a newlywed, I lived in the condos off Southern and Hardy, next to the (Lutheran?) church. That was about a dozen years ago. It was still pretty good, then.

We moved into our house in south Tempe just as they opened the pawn shop in the Fry's shopping center behind Riva's drive through; things went quickly downhill from there for the entire area. In fact, the Mill and Southern area (the area where I grew up) has become a rather nasty area in recent years, much to my chagrin. The city council couldn't give less of a damn - they're too busy trying to do the big-city poser thing along the river bottom.

This incident doesn't really surprise me now.

From the article:

"Tempe police said there is an active search for a suspect in the area."

A suspect on the loose in a double stabbing is newsworthy no matter where you live.

No one is making you read this thread, read the article, or comment on it. But here you are.
