Its a well known fact that Bell road is the busiest street in Phoenix. Do you think it would be wise for the city to build a standalone light rail from Tatum to 156th ave? I mean it covers Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Glendale, Sun City, and Suprise. What do you think?

If it doesn't connect into the existing/planned routes than it's a waste. It's not even being consider for future study.

It's a busy road (perhaps not the busiest, but certainly busy, often more so on the weekends in stretches) But, LR for that stretch makes no sense at all if it isn't connected to the rest of the system. And, the cost would be ASTRONOMICAL for the limited benefit.

I don't know why you say it would cover Scottsdale, since you have it stopping 3 miles short of the city limits.

Would not support. In a city this large, light rail really seems like a waste outside of more central areas. It is too slow. The speed limit on much of Bell is about 45 MPH, meaning traffic flows between 50-60 MPH, and you can get across the city pretty quickly during non rush hour times. Light rail seems to chug along at 30 MPH and it makes ridiculously frequent stops. It seems that it is just a glorified city bus on tracks. We really, really could use commuter rail. Run a line up Grand all the way past Bell to the 303, run a line in the median of the 10 to Verrado Way in Buckeye, run a line in the other direction to east Mesa and Gilbert, run a line down the 17 from Anthem, and run a line from Ahwatukee/Chandler toward downtown. This is what is needed rather than some light rail that is forced to stop at traffic lights (ridiculous), travels 30 MPH (seriously?), and travels down the middle of busy streets instead of in its own right of way (obnoxious).

Bell is the busiest arterial road in the state of Arizona. I agree the light rail makes no sense on Bell, eapecially if it is not connected to the existing system.

The vast majority of this town is commuting by car. I don't see that changing or want to see that change. All the streets with light rail running through make those streets much less convienant to travel by car. Nothing like a light rail train causing your direction of travel to be "skipped" during your light sequence by a light rail train.

Who is going to ride the light rail on Bell? Most everyone drives in north Phoenix... look how empty the buses are on the Bell, Union Hills, Greenway and Cactus routes. If anything, it should have been extended along McDowell or Thomas Road, or maybe South Phoenix. There is a greater need for public transportation in those areas.

Bell Rd is bad enough...no need to stick a light rail in the middle of it and make it an even bigger mess than it already is. I avoided it like the plague when I lived there. Don't miss it at all.
