HOAs go high-tech to catch dog poop perpetrators - ABC15 Arizona

So what do you all think about this? I would say if people were being considerate in the 1st place and picked up after their dog, it wouldn't come to this.

Also, anyone belong to Dobson Bay Condo complex in Mesa or the other 15 communities in the valley mentioned in the article that can chime in with comments on the program/their view on if it's helping?

Residents are required to take a swab from their dog, and send it off to a lab for DNA testing. The distinctive code of each dog is then kept in a registry. The dog’s DNA can then be matched to the offending homeowner.
So, what if the resident takes the swab of a friend's dog which doesn't live in the community and sends it off initially?

Shouldn't have to be an HOA issue to enforce. City and county should be doing it.
But hey anything to get people TO PICK UP YOUR CRAP!

This was actually brought up at our last HOA board meeting and the board members (I'm one of them) looked at this person like they were crazy. I hate people who don't pick up after their dog and it's been an issue in my neighborhood but no way in hell will I make someone DNA test and register their dog. We shot that idea down really quick.

I pick mine up but I have to admit, there's a little bit of joy thinking about that sweetheart of a HOA-property-manager from our last rental scooping up dukers for DNA testing. There is justice in life sometimes - I only hope there are lots of offenders in the old 'hood.

Yep, if my property manager had to do this we'd need to install benches every 25 feet so she could rest.

I was with you up until the point where you said we should pick up after other people's dogs...

A properly trained dog will poop in it's OWN yard BEFORE the owner walks it.

Oh yeah?

My dog poops into a baggie, ties it up & tosses it in the trash, all by himself. (not that he needs to, his poops smell like laundry on a clothesline along the Maine seacoast in the springtime..)..
