Hello,

I was visiting some relatives in Phoenix and had no idea about the photo radar installed on the 101.

Anyway, when i got home last week i received 3 tickets for speeding on the 101. I don't really have a problem with 1 but they are all withing minutes of each other.

When i called the number on the ticket i was told that all tickets were valid and the $170 for each ticket stands.

I have researched the internet and saw lawyers, police and different people say the radar is illegal due to not being served in person.

They also say that if i ignore the tickets they will go away after 120 days (6 months) and i will probably not be served in person since i am out of state.

Does anyone know the truth about this?

Thank You.

Question Photo Radar Fraud

Good morning, Mr. Bill,

We will never talk enough about photo radar fraud.
The other day I drove east bound on Shea Blvd. We all know there is photo radar and everyone driving quite slowly. Just to pass radar zone….
Anyway, my speed was 57 mph, believe me, I know. Nice tiny blink …. And hey, a few weeks later I got a ticket with nice photo. I realized my care is so nice, but they are cheating just to collect more money.
I need to repeat: my speed was 57 mph and on photo was, guess what, 62 mph.

I paid my ticket, but bad taste in my mouth stay. We aren’t any better ….

the wife passed one of those signs the other day she was going under 45 she checks it against the gps.
at the same time she approached the sign it went to 57. there was no car next to her.???

my only problem with them is not speeding. if you do it, you will get caught.

but are they accurate? a police officer checks his unit daily how often the the one on the side of the road get checked?

sure the photos are check for accuracy. but buy an employee who has a job because of the cameras.

On the other very long thread about this subject some were saying that your speedometer could be off by a few and even more. It's good to have it checked if you think that could be the problem.

I'm not sure why people complain about photo radar. I'm assuming it's the people who get caught and don't want to pay. Photo radar is nothing new, it's been around for many years. I used to drive through PV to get to school and would always run into a surprise radar van (this was 14 years ago). I have never received a ticket (knock on wood). I always go over the speed limit a little too. But, when I see a van or a stationary one on the freeway (you know, there are signs warning you they are approaching) I slow down until I pass. It's not rocket science. I guess the one thing people aren't doing is paying attention to the things around them. You can always see photo radar approaching if you pay attention.

For the OP, getting legal advice off of a site like this is not good advice. If you check out the other thread you will see differing views. We are not lawyers.

Good Morning sablebay,

Believe I did. Checking speedometer was a first thing which I did. Just in case.
On the other hand, there in Scottsdale and Fountain Hills you have those police panels and my speedometer was always right on.

If I wasn’t so sure I would never spread so serious accusations. Fraud is not something what we can just throwing around.

And further, you said my post is just because I don’t want to pay my ticket. I did pay even if I new is not correct, older people back to Europe just taught me is not any better to fight law enforcement. That’s all.

Have a nice day

osat, it's admirable that you went and paid the ticket. However, you can always argue your case in court. That's not the same as fighting law enforcement. It is having the opportunity to prove that your speedometer was correct and there was an error in the camera system.

These tickets will add points to your record and cause an increase in your insurance rates. So it is always a good idea to have your day in court when the system isn't working right.

Nope, I wasn't referring to your post about not wanting to pay. I started a new post to say my rant. You had problems with the speed showing up wrong and I suggested maybe your speedometer was off, which I guess wasn't the case. I was referring to the numerous people I hear complain and try to fight it when they clearly were in the wrong to begin with. I guess every system is flawed and sometimes we get caught in that flaw.

Since you called the # on the ticket, they know you got it. You will not be able to ignore it.
