A friend of mine who has lived in Sun City for several years now wouldn't touch a golf club, but uses all sorts of the other amenities, including the crafts-related facilities, etc.

The study jkgourmet referred to makes perfect sense.

I hope you are not wanting to use what percentage use the tennis courts to justify the existence of the tennis courts. The 3% or whatever it is that uses them may be 1/3 monthly, 1/3 weekly, and 1/3 daily. That comes to over 176,000 uses per year at 3% of the population using them.

If 1% of our population uses something daily that would be 146,000 uses.

There will always be people that do nothing. There will always be people that do things but don't think we need the things they don't do. Others, like me, think we should add anything that there is a demand for even if I never have any intention of using it. I don't know what I may want to do in 10 years.

I guess I am just trying to say that total uses means much more than what percentage of the population uses something and that percentage of population using something should never be used to justify somethings existence.

Or then again I may completely misunderstand what you are thinking.

Gene,

At Sun City Grand, you have to swipe your card to use certain facilities and club rooms. Golf management does keep stats on golf course usage and I suspect they track residents vs. non-residents. This information is collected by the HOA management team. Perhaps they could provide some information. I don't know how they monitor the use of pickle ball and open air facilities.

Does anyone know if one lives in Sun City or SCW or SCG can they use the facilities throughout all the Sun Cities or are you restricted to the "city" you live in?

No you cannot. You are restricted to use the facilities in the city you live. Unless your "city" makes an agreement with one or more of the other cities. Festival made an agreement for bowling during the summer with another Sun City community. I did not pay much attention since I was not interested.

GeneR, your posts have been invaluable to us as we begin our exploration of 55+ communities in the greater Phoenix area. Thanks so much!

You mention writing a blog -- are you publishing publicly elsewhere? We would love to read about your experiences.

Hi, VikingFan -- my husband and I are currently researching Trilogy Vistancia, PebbleCreek, Sun City Festival,
and Victory at Verrado -- any further thoughts on these properties? Seems like your short list and ours are pretty much the same.

Do a search for my name Gene Rusco and you will find me in Sun City Festival. Yes, I do write blogs on my web site.

Has it really been 4 years since our search for a retirement home began? It's way past time to revisit some of these locations with an updated perspective. I've posted this update on my personal blog. Send me a message and I'll give you directions.
