Hi everyone. I am in Ohio and my son is moving from his apt in Scottsdale to an apt in the 3400 block of north 38th st. in Phoenix. I have done some checking and the area is concerning me for his safety. He is already committed to it. Seems his apt is right on the cut off where things get sketchy. On one website in a one mile radius there were quite a few assaults, burglaries and a couple of robberies in just two days. Anyone have first hand knowledge of this area? Thank you

Yeah it's a so so area, definetly not "the hood" or dangerous though.

Honestly, these are par for the course in an urban area. I'd have no qualms with the area. If your son happens to be a hockey fan he'll be near Ice House Tavern, a good hockey bar.

My mom lived near there by herself for a while after my brothers and I moved away. She never had any problems, though we also lived in Sunnyslope before that which is much worse. If he is known to run his mouth off at strangers I could see some concern otherwise he will be fine.

That area is nice for being within the city, being close to a lot of shopping and restaurants. My Mom has lived just a bit south at 3000 N 38th street since 1988 and has had very few issues. The Wal-mart on Thomas is sketchy, but most Walmarts are!

True. Practicing common sense in going about your business is a good idea no matter what neighborhood you live in.

There's nothing wrong with that area. It's a normal city neighborhood...as long as your son isn't actively looking for problems he'll be fine.

If your vehicle does not have a security system I recommend getting a brake lock (mine was $50). 12 years ago cars were being stolen during the day in the hospital parking lot where I worked. A policeman recommended a brake lock for my new 2003 Toyota pickup. I am now retired but I use it in parking lots when I have to park far away from the door to stores, etc. Get the plain metal, was told criminals can see it better at a glance than the ones with colored plastic covers, then they go to another vehicle easier to steal.
