Hi all.

I am looking for help with commute times from Horseshoe Park Equestrian Center in Queen Creek to ASU. The equestrian center is near the corner of E.Riggs and S.Ellsworth. Normal M-F job working 8-5. My family and I are trying to decide between Queen Creek and Fountain Hills for our next home.

Thank you in advance, Kurt.

Queen Creek is a wonderful community but still does not quite have the infrastructure to support the population. The commute times out of town suck because the roads leading out of town are few and small although they are addressing the issue more and more as time goes by.
At this time, I'd pick Fountain Hills. Beautiful community it and area.

I've been from Horseshoe Park to my home in Tempe and back several times. (in commuting hours, I've been going the opposite way-- Tempe to QC in the AM and back in the afternoon) Neither choice is great for a normal rush hour commute. There have been extended discussions about commute times from FH, some of the times given would require a helicopter, not a car. I'd pick somewhere closer to ASU than either of those, but if those are your two choices, FH is the easier of the two, I think, coming down the Beeline and then a somewhat reverse commute down to ASU once you get to the end of the highway.

I would also agree with FH over Queen Creek. That section where the equestrian area is I believe only has 1 lane in each direction, although there might be some areas that have 2 -- Riggs was going through construction a few months back over by there so they may have widened it, I haven't been over there in a while. Either way - the commute from just that area to the 202 is a good 20-25 minutes with no traffic, and then you have freeway rush hour to contend with. Easily an hour if not more.

Which ASU campus? From anywhere in Queen Creek, Polytechnic would be easy, Tempe & Downtown Phoenix would be challenging, and West would be miserable.

I'm assuming they mean main campus. They wouldn't be asking if they meant Polytechnic, and downtown and West are bad from either place.

My office is about a half mile away from ASU in Tempe.

We were in Fountain Hills a couple of weeks ago and I drove the Beeline into Tempe and enjoyed the drive. It wasn't during rush hour/commute times though...

Coming from SoCal I am used to 30-60 minutes to drive 10-20 miles. I think Fountain Hills to Tempe would be very doable. I had doubts about Queen Creek into Tempe.

Thank you for the responses so far.

You will have more "company" in terms of traffic either on the two lane roads or the 202 coming in from QC than from FH. If those are your choices, I would pick FH if the commute is the deciding factor.

I think Fountain Hills is the better choice, I find it to be nestled in a very scenic spot kind of up against the mountains, and some of the vistas toward the metro area are spectacular. And regardless of what one thinks about it, the Fountain park is a nice park and good place to walk around. Decent array of shops, chains, etc., and not too far from Scottsdale if you want some variety. I think it has probably more "amenities" whereas Queen Creek would be more of a semi-rural feeling, although I know the area is developing rapidly.

Edit: That said, I don't believe there are any horse-zoned properties in FH, or if there are, they're very few (to get horse property near FH you could look at Rio Verde but that's even further north). If horse stables are an issue you might have to focus more or QC.

Thanks for the notes. Horse zoned property is not going to be a high priority. We just need some distance between our neighbors. We are digging the Fountain Hills area more and more. We also like the Orchard Ranch community in QC but I am sure the commute back and forth to Tempe will be no fun.
