Does any know why there was Military flowing low( little above the power lines) along 101 North freeway in Tempe. Total of 4 helicopters. Around 6pm last night. Later in the night at 8 pm a police helicopter flew by again.

Military training, perhaps. Noting unusual about a police helicopter flying by, though.

There is an National Guard base with helicopters based there off of McDowell over by the zoo. Fairly common sight in that area.

Speaking of choppers, this is a daily occurrence for years. I hike around the Apachee Trail head frequently (just off the Dove Valley road/parkway) there is always a chopper circling between the 74 and the dam just below the Dove Valley Parkway. Any idea as to what they are doing? It's non-stop.. every day I have ever been there and it goes on for hours.

That must be what I heard from inside my house last night. I've heard it before, but not often. Don't know. I doubt there's any connection between the military helicopter and the police helicopter two hours later.

If it was the night it was raining hard, they may have been flying lower than usual, under the cloud cover, for safety which is why it sounded louder to you. If it was the Guard or Police, they could have been dealing with, or looking for, weather-related emergencies.

Whatever the case, helicopter noise is another of the many sounds of freedom.

We live in a large metro area with a large Air Force base as well as the National Guard base. Military aircraft have been present here for years but yet everyone questions or wonders what they were doing when they seen one. It's like being in San Diego and saying 'Hey...there's war ships out there in the water....what's going on?!'
