It has been 7 years since the Higley Unified School district opened a K-6 school, with the newest being Centennial Elementary which was built in 2009. Well, it looks like a new K-6 school will be built for the 2016-2017 school year, Bridges Elementary. This school will be located in Bridges at Gilbert, and its boundaries will be carved out of the southwestern portion of Power Ranch Elementary's boundaries.

Apparently the housing market crash could be part of the reason why it took so long to build a new K-6 school. While two middle schools (serving grades 7-8) have been built a few years ago to relieve overcrowding at all of the district's elementary schools, it has been 7 years since a new elementary school was built.

I wonder, have other districts waited this long to build a new elementary school?
