Nice, Phoenix was selected as their first expansion location.

“(Arizona State University) was one of our first clients, so I had familiarity with Arizona,” said Coburn. “We even hired ASU interns and were very happy with performance.”

it picked the 111 W. Monroe building for its first out-of-state offices.

“We’re looking for an urban culture, and that’s what we found in downtown Phoenix.” Another factor was the availability of light rail. Company officials said its proximity was definitely a factor in the site selection. The new office is near light rail.

“Austin is at its peak,” he said. “We feel like we can be here and help Phoenix hit its stride as a burgeoning tech center. It has an ‘up and coming’ vibe.”

DoubleDutch expects to hire hundreds at its Phoenix facility in the next few years, Coburn said, but it will start with 25 to 30 initially.

DoubleDutch is a mobile software development company creating a mobile event application used by groups like American Express, major conventions and trade shows, and the Girl Scouts.
This is the real benefit of investing in public transportation.

Sucks that all of the jobs on their site in Phoenix are sales. I wouldn't mind their Automation Engineer position.

Unfortunately most of the technical jobs are limited to either the Silicon Valley or overseas markets.

That's the major problem with all of these companies that open up near the light rail. Living within 1/2 mile of it isn't cheap, and if it is it would be 1/2 the price if it were any further away. So living out of walking distance to it ends up making more sense to have basically a better quality of life. The jobs that say they want to be near the rail then end up paying low amounts for call center type jobs. Recently it was Zillow and State Farm. The high salaries you hear about at those companies aren't in Phoenix. Zillow's are in San Francisco and Phoenix gets the call rep jobs, and at State Farm all of my friends started out at like 15/hr, and from what they say only 2.5 of the floors in all of those buildings will have IT positions, which according to Glassdoor seem to be the only jobs that I think I could afford to live near the rail.

But getting TO and from the rail in the East Valley is convenient, whether using a park and ride or the north-south buses that run frequently during those hours. It opens up the options quite a bit.
