No generalization there, it's a fact.
I'd like to see that statistic but I doubt it exists. Do you proclaim every little idea that pops into your head as fact or is this a new thing?

This is quite the intriguing post. I'll give my 2 cents.

I think the valley is an amazing family friendly place. There is so much to do that is geared towards families. And a lot of it is free. We have seen and experienced much more in the year we've lived here than in MANY years in our small town in Montana. We love it. I feel like everyone is accepting and friendly to my children.

If I was older and alone I would probably want to live in a community without screaming children. Doesn't mean I am anti-kiddos.

The backyards are average sized for the most part. We have a pool and use it 8 months of the year. My kids like to play out front to ride their bikes but they are not allowed in the street. Yes I sit out with them and YES I am on my phone a lot. I homeschool them and we spend a lot of quality time together so I use the time they are outside to do research/work on my phone. They are not allowed to play outside and bother others. I am however the ONLY parent in the entire neighborhood that sits out with her kids. We go to the park together, they do not go alone.

Can't speak on education because like I mentioned we homeschool. I've heard enough horror stories.

We love it here!

I'll provide several links, they are many years old but the same opposition among older people still holds true to this day.

Study Finds Elderly Tend to Oppose School Bonds - latimes

Here is something from a few years ago about residents in a certain Phoenix area retirement community vehemently opposing a charter school. Opening of K-8 charter school in Sun City causing an uproar

Is it because people are selfish? Is it because they feel the money is being wasted with no gain in results? I think it could be a bit of both depending on the person.

Plus let's be frank on the selfish angle.....what would a young family with kids who really care about school funding rather fund with their finite tax dollars given a choice.....a senior citizen center to help poor seniors or educated related spending that they feel will benefit their kids? I think the answer is clear for many, depending on their place in life.

We all have priorities, what we want our tax dollars going to when push comes to shove. Right or wrong, I think we are largely a society of "what's in it for me?" types. The WWII generation mindset that I've read about is largely passe I believe based on my general observations. Or perhaps the "what's in it for me" has always been around to a large degree.

That is pretty short sighted...education funding is for educating the next generation to become contributing, working, tax paying citizens who contribute to the Social Security and Medicare programs and fund said programs for the retirees. I don't want to get into what is wrong with those programs...but it would seem to me they are shooting themselves in their proverbial feet?

20 year old links. Did you stay up all night searching

Once again it's still a numbers game you assume the valley is over run with geriatrics who hate kids.

I think you should get in your car and drive around the burbs and see how child friendly Phoenix is.

That's exactly what it is. The millennial's have all come out of public schools and colleges having been educated, (indoctrinated is a better word), by the latest in a bumper crop of socialist / communist teachers and professors. Who all have these kids heads packed full of the, "where's mine", philosophy. Along with how they've trained them to think the government, "owes them something".

This is the exact reason why Bernie Sanders has seen such a meteoric rise in several states. All his babble about "free" everything, including education, has all of these people chomping at the bit. The sad part is they don't understand there is no such thing as "free". They don't care that someone else has to pay, just as long as it isn't them. They're all taught that wealth is "evil", and no one should have to be self reliant. Rich, old, white people are the cause of all of this. Instead, the government should always be the one's to "provide". Be it health care, education, housing, name it. Forget the fact the government produces nothing, and cannot give anything to anyone, without first having to take it from someone else. That doesn't resonate with any of them, because they simply don't care. Just as long as they take it from someone else, and give it to them.

Bernie's nonsense knows no bounds. He say's burger flippers should all be paid $15.00 an hour....... Out of one side of his mouth. Then out of the other side he say's the tax rate should by 90%. That makes that same burger flipper's take home pay $1.50 and hour. This he say's is a "living wage". No matter, these millennial's gobble it all up, and come back for more. The easiest thing to do, is take someone who has generated a pack of kids they mostly can't afford to raise, and convince them it's some poor, old, decrepit retired person, who has worked their entire life, that should be the one's to pay for it. And the hits just keep on comin'.

So much nonsense.

It's as if bashing and screwing over younger generations is a boomers favorite pastime.

Talk about nonsense. How exactly have the boomers "screwed you over"?

I'm more curious as these communist teachers indoctrinating our children actually? Most of my teachers through K12 and Grad School were conservative. Most teachers I know are conservative.

Now it might be hard to be a Republican Teacher in AZ if you like having a job... Unless you own Charter Schools.
