The Astros and Nationals are moving into a new $144 million complex in West Palm Beach next year, so they won't be coming to Arizona any time soon!

Preview: The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches

Hammond Stadium in South Fort Myers where the Twins practice just underwent a major $48 million renovation over 2014 and 2015, where they renewed their lease in 2012 for another 30 years, so the Twins aren't coming to AZ until after 2042!

Twins hold groundbreaking on spring-training upgrades; new renderings released

The Braves are eventually moving out of Disney World's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando and looking to relocate to either Florida coast, whichever one decides to pay for a new spring training complex for them.

With regards to the Cactus league, the only potential changes I can see, is if two teams, like the Angles and the Brewers or the Angles and the Giants partner up and share a new facility, probably on the Gila River Reservation.

With the A's moving into the renovated Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, they just started a long term lease, so they aren't going anywhere.

Yup...Brewer's if I remember correctly. It was just torn down to make way for $400k townhomes and $600k homes all built on top of each other. /sigh

I think Chandler is a bit far out when compared to the other Spring Training facilities in Scottsdale/Mesa/Tempe.

Although the old Gilbert Rodeo Park on Val Vista and Ray would be a good place. It is becoming an eyesore and the possible uses are very limited because its an old land fill.
Common misconception. Teams use these facilities year-round. They base their minor league operations and team rehab at these facilities. They are also used for Extended Spring Training for lower-level minor leaguers and AZ Rookie League in the summer months. Quite a few, mostly the new parks, are used for Arizona Fall League.

A Chandler/Gila River site wouldn't be nearly as isolated as the current Goodyear and Surprise ballparks.

The Braves want out of their Orlando, Walt Disney location. They're looking to move, but there's no way I could see them coming out here. Toronto plays in a very old ballpark in Dunedin. They would like a new park as well, but I can't see them in Arizona either. If anything, I could see the Brewers moving to FL and sharing a ballpark with one of them. As a Brewers fan, I'd hate to see that happen.

They use them, yes, but the parks aren't bringing in paying crowds of people the rest of the year, except during Fall League for those parks that are used for those games.

Right. For instance, the Brewers former Spring training home in Chandler (the practice fields, not the stadium and parking) is now Snedigar Sportsplex and is the home of Chandler National Little League and the Youth Soccer league. These fields are not nearly maintained to the level of spring training ball fields. They are utilized for the public but the cost is substantially less than a spring training stadium and MLB quality practice fields. The old stadium and parking area are now going to be luxury homes crammed together as mentioned above.

The Goodyear park is a community resource where the free summer concerts are held, dozens of high school graduations take, place, Halloween, New Years festivals and various shows go on. It is still a money loser I think (though they had record attendance in 2015), but in Goodyear, where there is not so much built up, it makes more sense to have something than can become a focal point for the area than it might in Chandler and Gilbert even if taxpayers are footing part of the bill.

I see them as a good fit. AZ has a lot of Canadians in the Winter, I think they would do well.

Selfishly, I'd love to see the Brewers move back to Chandler...or anywhere else in the east Valley. Driving to Maryvale is a pain, not to mention Maryvale is a hellhole.

I remember the days when the Brewers were in Sun City. Ironically, I'm now in Sun City...although my Sun City is about an hour and a half away from the original Sun City.
