It is making me a bit nervous---all of the cutbacks, class size and such.

I'm not worried about a commute from Goodyear to Phoenix. We have spent the last 12 years with a 4 day a week commute 3 hours in each direction Makes for a very, very long day! I guess I'm assuming that it won't be that bad! We are somewhat homebodies, but it's nice to know that "the big city" is close enough for culture and foodie excursions I am familiar with Phoenix...actually, Scottsdale. We lived there about 19 years ago. Not interested in living there again though. Again, no offense, just way too plastic for me. We also lived (briefly) in Sonoma, Ca. (hope to retire there someday) and would like that type of vibe. Is there anything that would be kind of close to that laid-back type of vibe? Very casual, very chill? We are just super down to Earth people...kind of want to be around like-minded individuals

I will also be sad to be leaving behind Wegmans grocery store LOL! I'm sure Albertsons, Safeway, and Bashas have stepped it up since we lived there though

Again, thank you for all of your thoughtful replies!!!
I went to a Wegmans in NOVA and couldn't believe it was a grocery store. The buffet/fresh food area was quite impressive! We were in PA prior to moving here and took advantage of a private school for our daughter when she was younger, but we've been quite pleased with Millennium. My husband and I both commute to Phoenix and during the summer it's about 30 minutes, but much of the year it is a solid hour.

Right? I could LIVE in/at Wegmans! I'm scared to look at our yearly grocery store bills there since I go just about every day LOL! Thanks for the reply! Again, so helpful!!! We might go private school...we'll see.

Grass is dormant (and ugly) in the winter because it isn't supposed to be in the desert. I hope people who plant it don't have children because to keep it looking nice they are wasting precious water resources their children will need some day. People who want to live in green areas should live where that look is natural. Which is NOT the desert.

Or... people can live wherever they want, AND have green grass.

Thanks for the lecture. You sound like a Hollywood hypocrite who generates a massive carbon footprint and tells others to conserve. Leo DiCaprio's comes to mind..

Stay consistent: your air conditioning doesn't belong in the desert, the trees in your yard, your concrete driveway, and ANY water line you currently have in your yard, pest control, etc etc etc. Nor do farms, pigeons, amusements parks, etc etc etc.

In short, I LOVE my GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN winter rye grass (600 square foot patch to accent the front yard) that gets watered a whopping 2x a week for 6 minutes each sprinkling. I'll take out my grass when you stop using your air conditioning (I don't use air conditioning because I live in northern MN during the summer). But you also have to uproot your waterlines because they don't belong in a desert. Sound like a deal?
