I like that any deal requires Sarver to sell the team. We will never have a winner with a loser for an owner.

I certainly hope this is only a rumor:

Are the Arizona Diamondbacks looking to the South in their stadium search? The answer from my understanding is “Yes”.
Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park(formerly Firebird Raceway) is exploring moving further down 1-10 and the Diamondbacks new stadium would be built at the existing 600 acre track location just south of the soon to be completed San Tan 202 Freeway extension by Gila River Casino. Yes, the 101-202 Loop on the NE corner in Tempe could still be an option. Both locations would be great for the Valley, not so much for downtown Phoenix. Stay tuned…

Both are terrible locations. Wild Horse pass has routine traffic snarls as it is add a bunch of traffic and it'll be worse than trying to get to Westgate during a Cardinals home game (another stupid decision)

Exactly! Sports and entertainment need to be more centrally located. What's really funny is these downtown proponents (you know who they are) keep touting all the progress Phoenix's central core has made, but then have no problem with pro sports & large companies moving out of downtown. Take away sports, entertainment, and business, and there goes your so called "progress".

What the hell sense does it make to drive all the way to Wild Horse Pass, Westgate, the SRR, or some other asinine location, and cause more traffic congestion in areas that area supposed to be less congested??? Besides, I'm completely against anything like this located on tribal land. It's bad enough we have their idiotic names on non tribal venues (Talking Stick Arena, etc.).

You find this downtown proponent having no problem with pro sports leaving, if I had even a minor say in the TSR renovation that requirement would be that the Suns and Yotes are able to play there after the money is spent. My understanding is this would mean substantially more dollars spent as the building format would physically need to change to adequately host hockey.

The fact that the Coyotes are even in Glendale is beyond irritating... all 4 should be downtown ideally, much more like Denver. At a minimum the 3 with regular week night games need to be downtown. The D'Baks surely can see how drawing fans to a remote section of the valley on weeknights is a huge mistake.

It seems like you're talking out of two sides of your mouth when you say you have no problem with pro sports leaving, and then you say that pro sports should be downtown. If the Suns or DBacks vacate their current venues, you can certainly kiss all of most of your downtown progress goodbye. Colangelo had it right when he moved the Suns from the Coliseum to where they are now, and helped establish one of the most admired NBA teams in the nation at the time. He also had it right when he invested in what is now Chase Field & brought in the DBacks, which were also a dream team for a brief while. Flash forward 20+ years later, and the Suns have a horrible owner who would rather leave than make the needed improvements. DBacks would rather move out of Chase Field than fork over the money themselves to make the needed upgrades.

You're absolutely correct that the Coyotes are in a terrible location ... I've said this all along. This goes back to my point that pro sports, and the bulk of entertainment & corporations belong downtown. Your dream of adding more residents & liveliness to the central core will never become a true realty without things like corporate business, entertainment, and sports because they are major contributors to spurring development and bringing in revenue. Phoenix is too large of a city to continue with all this small thinking. We seriously need to grow up and act our size.

If the Suns and Dbacks move from downtown, both the teams and metro will suffer. Downtown currently isn't enough of a draw by itself because it lacks other top-notch amenities that other major cities have, including Sunbelt cities like Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta.

The teams will suffer because it will be highly inconvenient to travel to the stadium if it is not in a central location. The lack of other transit options besides a car and Lyft/Uber will be a huge deterrent. The traffic will also be a huge deterrent. There are already several in the East Valley that don't go to Cardinals/Coyotes games because the team is over an hour drive away.

This city is already too spread out. There needs to be a push to centralize and hopefully a more robust public transportation network and centrally-located amenities will do that. Otherwise, Phoenix will be headed in the wrong direction.
