Hi all. I've been in L.A. for over 10 years, have a security clearance, but the aerospace environment here is now horrible for Associate Degree, hourly types of workers. Massive layoffs, work moved out of state to cheaper states, etc has created a surplus of workers looking for good work. Only big university engineers seem to be blessed lately with their careers, the rest are having trouble.

Could anyone be so nice to name some aerospace or tech companies over there? I've always liked Phoenix a lot, thank you!

Intel, MicroChip, Honeywell, Raytheon, Orbital ATK, Freescale Semiconductor, Avnet, ON Semiconductor, Boeing.

Most of these will be in Chandler.

If I were you I would talk to the folks at Randstad. They do a great job of placing technology workers. You may have to start as a temp, but if you are good it will go permanent.

General Dynamics too. Security clearance is required for many of their jobs. They're in Tucson and Scottsdale. Boeing is here too. Moog is in Tempe, as well.
Indeed.com should help you if you type in aerospace and Phoenix, AZ.

Thank you all!

Sage, I'm a technician capable of lasers, vibration, electronics, and environmental. Also exp. in thermal vac, assembly, testing.

I was with Boeing, I don't know how busy they are over in Mesa. That would be nice, I check there often but nothing posted. Orbital ATK approached me earlier, but I am waiting for an opening. I have a friend at Intel in Chandler but it seems tough to get in there. I am going to check Randstad, those semiconductor companies, and General Dynamics.

Usually openings at Luke AFB also.... not just military, civilian too. Especially for Lockheed Martin. Honeywell and ACSS are both avionics companies in north PHX. You already know about Boeing helicopters in Mesa... MD Helicopters are basically across the street from them. Cobham and Cutler also have openings from time to time.

The pay is not great, but then again, the cost of living is a heck of a lot lower here than LA!

A friend of mine works for MD Helicopters in East Mesa. He needed a Secret clearance, apparently does some pretty cool stuff.

Degree and/or experience is big, though. But with an Associates and experience you'd probably be fine. (Friend has 6 years military, no degree).

The market can be tough, though, if your field is fairly specific. My experience is in intelligence, with 4.5 years experience and a TS/SCI (no degree though), and can't find work in my field.
