I think I want to try a walk-in for my TSA Pre interview tomorrow. I have a few flights coming up before their next available appointment dates. I was thinking of trying the one in Glendale. I've always had good luck with this kind of stuff. Anyone else try it? How are the crowds at the Phoenix-area locations?

Weren't you the guy who had a bunch of speeding tickets that weren't paid? Speed cameras? If so, they may turn down your application.

No, that wasn't me. Never got a speeding ticket I didn't pay and haven't had one in many years. Pretty sure there are no warrants out, since a bandmate of mine is Phoenix PD and I've bought plenty of guns from FFLs in recent years.

Well, what a pleasant surprise I got today. I read some online reviews of the Glendale location and they weren't pretty. But I went anyway, there were about three other walk-ins before me and I waited no more than 10 min. to be seen. Once I was in process, I was out in less than five min. That's a total of 1 min. for everything. I was pretty amazed.

Wow, $85. What do you get for that?

I think you should get Global Entry. If you get Global Entry, TSA pre-check is included. If you ever travel internationally, GE is the way to go. There is only one Global Entry screening center (Phoenix Skyharbor airport) and the appointments are booked out.

I got my "determination of eligibility" and KTN (known traveler number), but it says a letter has been mailed. Does that mean I got approved?

Yes, you got approved. Your KTN is all you need. Just make sure that when you book airline tickets, that you make a concerted effort to call the airline and give them your KTN number to add to your profile. And when you book tickets online, always actively add your KTN number when booking tickets; there is usually a slot for it. This will appear on your boarding pass so that when you walk through TSA pre-check, they won't hassle you. Don't walk into the airport with your letter and expect to be served in pre-check. A lot of old folks like me make that mistake and get turned away.
