Man, last night and this morning were deliciously cool. I was beyond excited to be able to drive to work with the windows down and not get the slightest bit sweaty. Hallelujah! Summer is breathing its dying breath, thank goodness.

Yes, it is really humid here when we are socked in with clouds like this, and it's still raining. When the clouds pass, the humidity comes down again. Pretty basic weather science, isn't it?

Precipitable water, one of the measurements for moisture in the atmospheric column, was the third highest it has ever been in September for Phoenix this morning. That's pretty neat.

It is basic weather science, but YOURE MISSING MY POINT when I stated people here will say "oh, it doesnt get humid here like it does out East." Thats bullcrap, because it does, and quite often, too! Summers here suck, there's no way around it. We get blasted with scorching, dry, furnace heat in June, then the remainder of the summer is still hot, but also damp and dusty. Then it seems like every September we get tropical storm remnants which raise the humidity even more and flood out the place. Luckily we havent had much flooding this summer at all.

Are we REALLY doing this again?
Of course we get periods of humidity here, most specifically when it rains and in the early morning hours of the day when pretty much the rest of the planet also gets humid.
What we DON'T get, are days that are humid and sunny, with no rain, all the way through the day, with constant dew points in the mid 70s day in and day out like places in the midwest do. (I can't speak for "back east" as I am not from the eastern part of the US nor have I ever lived there). My hometown, for instance, stays and a constant humidity level of well above 60% with dew points that range generally around 73-77 for the majority of the summer. (current conditions there: Temp 75, humidity 93%, dew point 73) The brief spikes in moisture we do see in the valley are short lived, and not a normal daily thing like they are there.
No one really thinks it is a "dry heat" here ALL THE TIME (no place truly is), but in general it is much drier than other areas, and to say it is the SAME as the wetter parts of the US is just ridiculous.
