HOA rules regarding Class-B motorhomes in Sun City. (fit in, 2013)

I live in Sun City, an HOA community subject to deed restrictions and rules. One of these rules is no parking of RV's and motorhomes in driveways.

I want to buy a very small class-B like this:


This motor home would be so versatile for me, in fact the model is the Roadtrek Versitile! I could use this vehicle as my daily driver, as well as for road trips and recreation.

I started a position at a company that is going to have some whacked hours. I'm talking about shifts that begin at 4AM, or split shifts where I have upwards of 5 hours to kill (it's a bus driving position).

A little motorhome like this would be the solution to these challenges. During my "split" I would go back to my vehicle, eat and take a nap. For those early AM shifts, it would save me a morning commute time because I'd just park it in the employee parking lot and spend the night there. Heck for that matter, the RV has a shower, toilet, stove, fridge, everything, I could stay out a couple days in it. It's total freedom!

Now back to the HOA thing. No RV's allowed, but as you can see, this thing is basically just a fully self contained "conversion van". The air conditioner is integrated into the rear portion of the hightop, so you don't even see it.

As I said I'd be using it as my daily driver too. Therefore I can't be parking it at the Sun City RV Compound when I'm going to be needing it again at 3AM, the RV compound isn't even open that early.

Of course I'll ask the Sun City HOA these questions before buying it. I was just wondering if any Sun City residents here had any experience parking class B's in their driveways.

I want this vehicle, I NEED this vehicle.

It's a no go. Two of the board resolutions clarify what a RV is. It's the plumbing and kitchen that puts it in the RV category. So I'll probably just get a 1/2 to 3/4 ton van and outfit it with the basic necessities for an overnight sleep, mainly a mattress and a Gatorade bottle. Surely the HOA won't consider that a self contained vehicle. I might even be able to fit a full size van in the garage, a non high-top model that is.

I think you will find that most HOAs are not easy to fight. Jus a warning.
I agree that if you are using this vehicle on a daily basis you may not have a problem but my experience with HOAs is that they are filled with people with nothing better to do that influence you to their way of thinking.
The bottom line is that if you buy one of these and then get a letter from the HOA what are you going to do? Moving or storing it is about your only option.
I saw my first HOA come into being in the early 1970s. Uncontrolled people who knew nothing about the law and fees that could get out of control in a heartbeat was my opinion at that time and it has not changed.

I was warned off of Sun City just because it's FILLED with people who have nothing much better to do than watch their neighbors (aka Gladis Kravitz) and then gossip or call the HOA (or both).

I wish I had been able to talk my mom into a more normal neighborhood. But she was impressed with all the available activities here, and golf for my father. Myself I've made major sacrifices living in this neighborhood. The biggest being that I'm in my early forties and it will be a long time until I feel like I fit in here. These old timers buzzing up and down in their flag adorned golf carts aren't exactly my peers yet. And I'm certainly not going to meet any women I'd be interested in here. I guess I was just so thankful to get out of Florida and not have a landlord anymore. Houses were cheap here and my mom had a down payment. I accept responsibility for my decision to move here, I'll adapt. Years from now it will probably be my place, and I'll fit in then. I feel old already, of course driving a Crown Vic doesn't help.

Sure, but he's a forty something year old man living with his mother. Even if he were surrounded by forty something year old women, they aren't going to be interested in him!

And he's planning on sleeping in a van? Yeah, that's attractive to single women.

I guess you missed the part of my post where I said I drive a bus for Valley Metro. I also pay the mortgage and all utities. My parents helped me through many tough times in my life, now I'm able to help them out.

As for my van idea, I'm not planning on living out of it full time. It was just going to be a place to crash for a few hours during a split shift.

Now if you've made it this far in my post, please do me a favor and don'bother to respond. There isn't much you have to offer of benefit to me.
