Funny Onion article:

New Study Finds Most Of Earth’s Landmass Will Be Phoenix Suburb By 2050

“Projecting present growth trends forward, we were able to determine that 35 years from now, the suburban area surrounding Phoenix, AZ will have expanded to occupy nearly 70 percent of all land on Earth, or roughly 137 million square miles across six continents,” said study co-author Grace Parsons, explaining that the entire land area of North America would be subsumed by the suburban sprawl spreading out from Scottsdale by 2030, while new subdivisions on the outskirts of Glendale and Litchfield Park would continue expanding westward, crossing the Pacific Ocean and encompassing most of Asia over the following decade.

I just posted this in that thread about how huge Phoenix was HAHA

"The researchers warned, however, that a lack of adequate transportation infrastructure in the Phoenix metro area could create problems for workers driving in from the suburbs, estimating that traffic congestion during rush hour could add as much as 1,200 to 1,400 hours to their daily commutes"

I love the Onion. This is hilarious and so true. The burbs keep expanding like a parasite. I remember moving here and areas that were total BFE are now completely developed and suburban.

When I was born here my house was out by Lake Pleasant and Beardsley... literally straight desert I'm talking vultures, coyotes, everything on the regular. It's solid suburbia now which is crazy. And when I was there the 101 northern half wasn't even built yet. Now people are moving out to the other side of Sun City, talk about insanity.

When my family moved to Phoenix in 1952, the city boundary to the west was at the intersection of the Grand Canal and Indian School road. I used to shoot rabbits with my .22 rifle on the other side of that canal in 1958.

Seems it's grown a wee bit since then.

ok? I have said I am a native multiple times on multiple forums here on this website. I have lived in West Valley for about two decades (the past four years have been for half the year in West Valley and the other half in Tucson). Went from the Peoria/Sun City Grand border to north Glendale (Arrowhead) to central Glendale near the community college and ASU West.

The image on that article is backwards. It has been flipped horizontally so that you're looking north, but east is on the left and west is on the right.

I posted this article on my Facebook the other day, and a friend replied to tell me that the Onion is a fake news site...like I thought this was actually going to happen

I had to let them know I did understand what The Onion was about, but the article wasn't too far from the truth
