Outside temp is outside temp, it has nothing to do with the urban heat island effect. That really only applies to nighttime temps where the heat is absorbed during the day and radiated back out at night. What would you say to the record temps in AZ that occurred way before PHX was a major city?

The warmth is one reason I escaped to the Southwest. Try the opposite. I lived in Seattle for many years. In October 2016 it has rained 23 of out 27 days. Half the year felt like living in a steam room with all the moisture everywhere, its disgusting with all the mud, leaves, everywhere. I am loving the sun, heat, warmth of the Southwest.

For once, my outdoor thermometer actually matched the airport. Mine is usually a few degrees lower but it maxed at 100 yesterday too.

Maybe not on this particular date but I looked at wunderground.com and Phoenix has hit temperatures exceeding or at least within a few degrees of 100 in each of the past 10 years during October. It was 95 on Halloween in 2014.

It's not just this year Our winters are getting shorter and urban spawl and the heat island effect are a contributing factor.
Choice is simple, live somewhere else and then remember how "terrible" our weather was. Pretty sure people in Florida would have gladly dealt with some annoying heat than their condo being destroyed

I like to form my own opinion and assess what it actually feels like as opposed to allowing a headline to cause me to panic. I was at a Halloween party outside in a costume and it was actually pretty nice

I'm a little nervous now, not used to a weather thread with all positive posts.

Yeah, there sure is a lot of whining about weather here, a place that is sunny and clear something like 90% of the time.
