Would it be safe for me (a single lady in my 30's) to drive there and stay the weekend by myself? Should I just plan to stay at a resort, and stay on the resort the whole time? Would I be safe driving down there from Phoenix by myself?

Nobody should visit any foreign country alone - too many wild cards.

Find a tourist group or something.

Silly.

I've been in many foreign countries by myself. Just be smart, it's typically no different than traveling domestically.

As for PP as a single woman, you should be able to make it work.

Rent at the condos which have secure parking, bars/restaurants on site and beach access.

Drive down during the day. Shouldn't be an issue if you have a reliable car.

Get good auto insurance. The one I buy also comes with trip insurance.

The condos, restaurants in the main areas, old port and 5th st shops (cholla mall / shacks 5th Ave) would all be fine.

I much prefer the shops on 5th. The vendors are not nearly as aggressive.

Should have no issue at the supermarket's either.

I would be careful going out at night. Watch your drinks, don't accept from others, don't tag along to a different party with strangers, etc. Same type of precautions that are universal.

If you just want to hang on the beach, go in the water, etc and then grab some local food and have a couple drinks at night you'll be as fine as if you were traveling around in AZ
