What are the differences between the two communities? Why did you choose to live in one versus the other?

Sun City was built before Sun City West. When Del Webb ran out of land for Sun City they went over to the other side of the Agua Fria river where land was cheap and built Sun City West. The newer home designs are in Sun City West. Sun City homes are cheaper to buy than SCW. Both are great communities.

There are differences (albeit slight) in the operations and fees associated with buying and living in the two communities. The original Sun City & Sun City West communities are outside of school districts so property taxes are lower.

And also be aware you may find some newer developments with Sun City and Sun City West addresses that are within school district boundaries. Two examples are Crossriver and Corte Bella. Taxes will be higher in these developments.

As wit-nit mentioned, Sun City is older, and therefore, so are the houses. Sun City also has more traffic because they have a few major streets that run through the town. Being closer in to other older suburbs, I suspect the crime is a little higher in Sun City, but I have no evidence to support that.

Other than that, the biggest differences will be in where your interests lie and which city can better accommodate them. Investigate this very carefully.... One of the biggest mistakes people make in retirement is having a plan of what they are going to do to occupy their time. Both cities have ample clubs and recreation opportunities.... It just depends on which one provides those opportunities that better match your individual interests.

I personally, looked at several houses in both cities. I just happened to end up in SCW and am I ever glad I did! I realize now that the clubs I am most active in do not have facilities in SC.

Knowing my retirement would be in greater Phoenix research found the best way to educate myself was to find a realtor who
specialized in 'over 55' communities. Concern that being quite distant from the city core and lifelong friend, who lived on
the PHX/Scotts border, made my seven home 'tour,' of 4.5 hours, loaded with information. To the point of overload (no harm in this).

Comments above were addressed while it turned out my professional guide was from the same FL county I was also leaving.
What was discovered were activities mostly sought were still community related and it would be advantageous to not buy
on the west side. With no desire for ongoing commuting (leaving the workforce at age 58) to get to where I wanted to be found this to be a smart decision. Resort fitness club found several younger members who drafted me into their bicycling
group. Thus, all new friends reside in the area I bought.

This 'over 55' has residents (HOA) with my mindset. No social activities. A nice size pool is the only attraction. Hometown
acquaintance has relocated to SCW. Their visits are weekly and after six months they've yet to offer an invitation to come
over. Not involved in a remodel it's just a matter of time!
