Hi,
I am looking at buying a SFH in the Phoenix suburbs later this year. I currently live in Seattle with my husband and young daughter, and we have positions that will allow us to work remotely for parts of the grey, grey winters plus frequent weekends. I lived in Chandler in the late 90's, and it remains one my favorite locations in the world. Our budget is $400k and we prefer new, low maintenance, and lots of kids and activities for the little one when we are in town. Long term, this will be a home for retirement. Any suggestions on areas to check out or avoid?
Thanks!
Chi

There are still plenty of new homes being built in the east valley (Chandler, Gilbert). It sounds like it checks most of your boxes and you already like it! Scottsdale is the obvious second home location for a lot of snowbirds, but chances are slim to none you'll find a NEW SFH for 400k.

It depends on what you like. I mean what are your priorities?

We too are in Seattle now but I'm not interested in being here even part of the year so back to AZ full time yay!

Plenty of kid friendly places - lots of communities with jungle gyms and community pools, etc. that's what I would look for - at your price point you have many options! If you want new build there is vistancia in peoria that seems to be so popular and others - as well I personally like mcdowell mountain ranch in scottsdale because for what you get with 2 community centers, with year round pools, basketball courts, tennis, walk/bike paths, etc. the hoa is relatively cheap - what I regret personally not doing is moving near a YMCA - that used to be very big for us back east with lots to do. The one closest to me is over 10miles away so we don't go - look out for an email from me - I'll send you more specifics!

There's some good property I hear located on Cardinals Way in Glendale. You shouldn't have any problem finding the place, it's right next to a statue of a national legend wearing the #40 jersey.
Congratulations on your anticipated move to Arizona.
Let us know when you get settled in and all 65,000 of your neighbors will gladly show up for the housewarming.
Just a little bit of advice, you might want to leave the 12TH man flag in Seattle.

Thanks everyone! I will check out the areas mentioned. No 12th man flag for me - we have only been in Seattle 3 years.

We definitely would love a community with kids activities, walking trails, a fitness center and a heated pool since we will be there more in the winter. It would be great to be near restaurants but we also don't mind driving.

We would also love to have one story home and a spa and fire pit in the back yard. Hopefully, we can visit in the next month to start scoping out areas!

When are you moving permanently Minntoaz?
