Hi guys,

I was wondering if there were specific areas within the city of Phoenix that look more suburban and rural but happen to be safe at the same time.

What I mean by rural is blocks with trees on it, visible grass, shrubs etc. Im not physically there yet so I can't really tell from looking at pictures online.

I want to be able to hear the insects at night and not cars honking and people talking loudly at night outside.
I also don't want to worry about my car getting stripped, broken into or junkies asking me for change.

I thought Id ask now and do the research. :-)

If your definition of within the city of Phoenix includes the many contiguous burbs, that pretty much describes the whole place. It is 90% safe, sleepy, and sterile. Trees vary, more and bigger in older areas, grass is not common anymore, but there are plenty of people who try to grow it. That said, most of the newer housing is pretty much cheek to jowel. But every city has tracts of homes on 1/2 acre and above lots. The price goes up sharply along with lot size though.

Small areas of "urban" mostly "Suburban" and if you want "rural" then look for horse property or lots > 1acre - we have it all! no worries about safety unless you are worried about coyotes, etc. at night - and there are of course pockets of areas for safety but majority is thumbs up!

Hi Terra. I hear what you mean! Grass and trees make things so much nicer and homier, and I daresay they cool the temps a bit too. There's an area I think you'd like called Royal Palm. Green, grassy, tree-lined, quiet, and from what I can see on the stats, it's safe too. North of Northern Avenue, east of 15th Avenue, and especially "between the sevens" (7th Ave and 7th St). Check it out on Google maps, street view, and you'll see what I mean.

Cactus and 100th St. or so has a somewhat rural feel. Many horse properties and homes on large lots.

But not "visible grass", trees, etc. the OP is looking for -- not like what are found in several areas of Phoenix (and the suburbs as well).

Yeah, I guess that's true. Some of the homes do have lawns but it's more of a dusty rural feel I suppose.

My best guess is probably the housing areas around Apache Peak and Cave Creek South would fit your needs.
