My husband and I are visiting my family in Gilbert for the holidays and we would like to cook them up some traditional Salvadoran food while we are here (my husband is from El Salvador, my family is Mexican.) Unfortunately we didn't plan ahead of time and buy the specialty products we needed while in California.

So, does anyone know of any Central American markets where we could go on the East Valley or Phoenix area? Or possibly a Mexican market where they sell Central American products as well? In Orange County we get lucky and they have a Central American area at some of the traditional Mexican grocers .

Thanks ahead of time for any help/suggestions.

You might want to try Arizona International Marketplace at Broadway & Dobson in Mesa. It's in a predominantly Asian business district, but it's huge and it has entire sections designed to appeal to different cultures and nationalities from throughout the world. I would not be surprised if it carried Salvadoran products.

Pro's Ranch Market on Roosevelt & 16th St may be useful. There's a lot of local establishments referring to themselves as "carniceria" around central & downtown but I cannot attest to quality.
