Need it? No. You'll survive without it. Is it nice to have? Yes.

This^^^

As long as you stick to a reasonable tint level (no limo tint)
night driving won't be terribly impacted. I made the mistake of limo tint on the front side windows back in my late 20s...it really wasnt bad on dark contry roads where you generally look straight ahead but was an absolute nightmare in the city of Chicago with all the pedestrians around ect. Can't even tell you how often I was driving in sub 20 degree weather with my windows down at night so I could see out!

I do think the tint is a worthwhile investment in AZ. My SUV has no tint on the front windows and when the sun is at a cerrain angle I can literally feel it searing into my legs/arm...doesn't happen that often but it's definately not comfortable.

I"m convinced that windows tinting leads to more pedestrian accidents.

Convincing arguments are seldom won without statistics.

I think sometimes people go overboard with the window tinting. Saying this because of an experience my mom and I had some months back at Tempe Marketplace - short version is that the person parked on my side had their car windows so heavily tinted that you couldn't see if anyone was inside. The ONLY way I knew the driver was in their car was that when I tried to get out of my Mom's car, they got pissed off and started honking their horn.....I guess I was somehow supposed to see them through the heavy window tint, and know that they were intending to back out in a minute.

(this person had parked a bit crookedly, so I came close to hitting them with my mom's car door)

Do you need tint? I would say yes. Having owned cars here both with and without tint, I can say tint makes the driving experience that much more comfortable. In my old car with no tint, even with the a/c blaring I could still feel the burn from the sun through the glass. I only got relief when I turned onto a road driving away from the sun.

I have to agree with you; when we were there last weekend, driving our rental car from the airport to our house up I 17, I could feel my driving arm getting sun burnt, even with the ac blasting, and the windows sort of tinted; I actually had to move my left arm off the armrest and sort of keep it close to the steering wheel so it wouldn't get sun-burnt...this was only a 30 minute ride!

Right then I decided one of the very first things I was going to do when we move is get the car windows tinted...
