I stand corrected on my engineering statement. I was thinking that the majority of the more technical jobs resided near Chandler.
I think you are right. The intel presence attracted a number of techie firms to that area and that concentration continues. You see the same when a hospital opens and all the ancillary medical service offices and such soon follow. Which bring up a good point. The burgeoning population of the west valley is currently underserved and will continue to demand more hospitals. As they come in so will all the other medical professionals. Health care is the largest valley employer, I believe, and these kinds of jobs pay well. There will be strong employment opportunities in the health field in the west valley for many years to come.

Smile Loving Phoenix So Far!!!

Good Evening, Everyone!!

It's Ms Relocation from CA to AZ again (OP)! I've read all your comments and advice and didn't realize I would cause a semi-riot in here. It was not my intention to start a east valley vs. west valley war LOL; however, I have definitely learned a great deal about Phoenix and its inhabitants love and loyalty to it.

I drove from CA to AZ on Sunday, August 6th for my job interview on Tuesday, August 8th. Only took me six hours and it was a breeze since I was listening to an audiobook. I've quickly fallen in love with the Phoenix Metro area and have spent the last day and a half exploring it. Because my job will be with the State of AZ and I get to choose west valley vs east valley I've taken the time to drive past each office to get the feel of the different areas. So far I checked out the Phoenix offices on 16th St, Central Ave, Broadway Rd, Pinnacle Peak, Black Canyon Hwy and 95th Lane. I've also checked out the Tempe/Gilbert office, Mesa, Glendale, Avondale, and Peoria offices. The only offices I didn't check out were Casa Grande, Coolidge and Apache Junction. After my interview tomorrow, I plan to head out nd explore Queen Creek and San Tan Valley.

I love Phoenix so far and the weather has been cooperating. I love the feeling of being in a city with access to tons of activities yet have the feeling of space. It definitely feels very different from LA which is too claustrophobic for my tastes. I'm definitely hoping and praying I get the job here because I think I've lost my heart to Arizona.

Wish me luck!!!

Nice, so what are you impressions of the East versus West sides so far? It's always interesting to get someone's take who is fresh in town without much bias one way or the other.

Sure, you can pay a lot for a house in Chandler, but it's quite a ways off the top home values in the valley and is pretty sleepy by the other categories I mentioned minus jobs.

Not really, plenty of sports bars, brew pubs, fine dining, breakfast spots, movie theaters like Alamo, Harkins and upcoming flix brewpub, upscale mall, upscale power centers, Phoenix Premium Outlets, 2 casinos, golf courses, etc. What exactly am I missing out on?

Chandler is pretty good at what it does. It's one of the best suburbs in the area. Hard to dog it like some people do.

Has the top rated restaurant in AZ and tons of great options including local places, yet it's not good for "foodies"

Good luck on your potential new job and your new life in AZ! I felt exactly the same way the first time I came to the Phoenix area, so I know how you feel.

Regarding the semi-riot, there are always trolls on these types of boards who are so devoid of a life that they have to come on here and try to convince everyone else that they have a life - and that their life is better than everyone else's!

Sounds like you are taking the right approach in checking out all the areas and deciding for yourself what best fits your personal situation. Again, good luck!

Exactly, just like food, wine, beer and the person you marry it's all about personal preference that may or may not agree with others ideas or tastes.

Go with what YOU like as YOU are the one that has to live with it...
