I won't name the bar. I went in for one drink, was almost done with it. Then two people come in and sit down. Bartenders says did you pay the door fee? They say there's nobody out there, huh? Sends them back out to pay and says they will be in to collects from everyone else in a bit.

I took a few last guzzles and walked out. Is this a serious thing---no one at the door then come in and collect later? In my case they would have been trying to charge me $5 to get up and go home.

I did experience this in Chicago 20 years ago, we had been in there for hours then they came in and collected a door charge--the guy I was with about lost it.

Is this a normal valley thing? I don't go out much...

No, not a typical thing. Was it a strip club or a place with a live band? What was the cover charge for?

I've had this happen at Time Out Lounge in Tempe. It's a regular dive bar up until 8pm or so then it's a cover to stay and see the band or comedian. If it seems interesting I'll stay and gladly pay. If I'm about done I just say no thanks and go on my way. I see nothing wrong with it.

some bars will have a certain time that a cover charge starts. No entertainment, no cover. band starts at 9? cover starts at 8. very rarely have I seen bars come around to collect cover from patrons already there except in cases of an expensive national act that cost the bar a decent amount to book.
