I have no idea what your expenses are. That would be for you to figure out. Rental prices are available online.

I think you need to tell us your itemized budget, preferences and lifestyle. Do you have revolving (existing) debt in which regular payments must be made?

As for Retail / cashier positions you note, I'm not sure if it's possible to apply online at the large chain / companies these days.

Perhaps it's possible, just before you arrive IF....you want to work right away.

Lost of temp / staffing agencies as well but I doubt it's for retail jobs.

Many of the major retailers accept online applications. For some, it's the only way you CAN apply.

If you have a job when you arrive, anything more than what you should already have all the time (6 months savings) + the moving expenses is overkill. Things in life will come up and if you keep trying to get to that magic number in savings before being okay to move, then you may wait forever or miss your chance.

So, get the job first so that you're not burning savings for a month or 2 when you arrive.
And No offense, but retail & cashier positions are plentiful and relatively easy to obtain so if the job doesn't work out, there are more around.
