Definitely not surprised.

With an announcement and location this size into your city, it's a complete game-changer. Thousands of six figure jobs and opportunity for better careers and not to mention providing a mega surge "shot in the arm" for any city's economy that lands the Amazon HQ.

No one would want to relocate here. People need to be realistic.
Memories are shorter than you think, now that we have the outrage du jour, usually manufactured.

I barely remember SB1070 myself, as far as that goes.

Prospective cities should keep in mind that Amazon is the kind of company that is putting a homeless shelter in one of their new Seattle buildings. It will house 200 families.

That kind of activism is going to upset some local hucksters who think they own the homelessness issue, the food desert issue (Amazon gives out free bananas on the street), or whatever issue.

You're right: It will be fun to watch.

Arizona needs to massively INVEST into ASU/UA and higher education to train students in STEM fields... Otherwise, AZ will keep importing it's talent in states who does that already (i.e. CA).

I just saw today that El Paso voted to end its boycott of Arizona over SB1070. They are trying to steal AZ businesses and need to travel here. The story said there are five cities that still have bans in effect. Even if SB1070 fades, there are wide swaths of America, both liberal and conservative who picture cowboys in pickups with confederate flags shooting AK47s into the air when they think of Arizona. Some like that, some don't.

Bezos is a known slavedriver, globalist and lair (see: Wash. Post) any philanthropy he engages in is to mitigate these facts.

Arizonans, you don't want this Bilderberg fool in your backyard. And he doesn't want to come here anyway, where no one's going to want to work 60+ hours when the rent is only $600 a month.

Lol, free bananas. Might as well hand out pink blankets in winter.

That's an odd form of slavery when you choose to accept a job that requires putting in 4 more hours per day than the standard workday to earn a six-figure salary, benefits and equity options for a company whose stock has gone from a little over $200 to just under $1000 in 5 years.

But please, tell us a little about your gig?

Last I heard, new hires are getting RSUs that vest in six years.

I'd take that bet -- if I were 30 years younger.
