I only watch it for monsoon news. The rest of the time it's MSNBC or CNN, and KTLA and KNBC (the LA stations available online).

April and team are nice eye candy, that's about it. The reporting around here is college level at best.

Phoenix has a population of well over a million people. For the few hundred who would be affected - most of whom would hear the news from their neighbors - I don't think it's appropriate to force on the rest of the city the ignorance of more important issues that aren't covered. And, you know, most dog poisonings (which was speculation at the time, anyway) and most car crashes aren't "contagious." It's also possible to cover them at the end of the broadcast, not use them as the lead stories.

And, sorry, but I will vehemently disagree. Part of the seriousness of environmental problems is that people pay no attention on an ongoing basis. Personally, I think we should strive to be better informed, and that includes knowing about city/state policy, even in the absence of a crisis. And, no, news doesn't mean "live." The tendency toward "live" news is, I suspect, just a matter of laziness on the part of television journalists, and low-intelligence gravitation to sensationalism on the part of viewers.

I have on occasion. I think our media is at least on par with other metros. It's not great, but it's local media, it is not going to be unless it's LA/DC/NY

I travel across the country frequently, most all the major cities have mediocre local/national news coverage, some are even far worse than the Phoenix area stations. And the weather prognosticators are really horrible. It seems like most go for the pretty face, not brains.

It really comes down to too many "news" shows and not enough news.
