Not every number is a cell phone number. And voicemail is still more professional in many situations.

Plus has the added benefit of a trustworthy record of the discussion.

And phone calls are BORING; no emojis or hilarious gifs to use! Never talking on the phone again would be nirvana.

Now face to face? That's a different ballgame because you gain the added advantage of body language and there are times where it's absolutely necessary.
Lol the emojis and stupid gifs are exactly WHY I don't like texting. I am a part of a group chat (that I don't really participate in) involving my mom, aunt, siblings, cousins and some other random number I don't know.. And it's constantly The Office gifs and Minions from Despicable Me and ughh I am just too nice to leave. I actually prefer Kik, Instagram or even Snapchat for messaging. Text message on my phone pop up and are disruptive and I love a long phone call provided I have the time. That's the old school in me. I like talking on the phone. Hearing someone's voice and having an actual conversation beats sending "Lols" and "Ks"

Compared to old school answering machines, voicemail takes 4-5 times the amount of time to listen to the same number of messages.

Or a long, rambling message followed by "callmemynumberis2345something7mmph38bye!"

But, again, when I hear a message left in an unintelligible accent, doesn't get to the point, doesn't tell me who's calling and why... I just delete it.

Some people enjoy playing with their phones, texting allows them to do that. While texting is fine for some communication, voice mail and phone calls are also appropriate for others. If that riles up some people, that is their problem.

Using a phone to communicate is not playing with one’s phone.

Defensive much? Like I said, some people enjoy playing with their phones. Pressing buttons and inserting cute little emojis.... wheeeee, such fun! Much more fun than actually interacting with a human being.

I don't do texting. If you text me, you won't get a reply. A voice mail on my cell phone will never be answered if I don't know your phone number. A limited number of people know my cell phone number, if you are not one of them, don't bother, I will not even lessen to your voice mail. If I call some one and get an answering machine, I will not leave a message, unless it is VERY important, I don't like to talk to a machine.
I know people who don't have a computer and are far away. I communicate with them the old fashion way, by snail mail or phone.

No voicemail, no problem... I just move on with my life. Want something from me? You're going to have to leave a VM. If you keep calling trying to get me "live", all you'll accomplish is having your number blocked. My phone is for my convenience, not yours.

Well if you are a business and I cannot get you "live", you won't get my business.
Now if you are not a business and I don't know you, why would I call you in the first place !
