Congratulations! One of the upsides to teaching! Now if they only gave you a pension. That would have made teaching even MORE worthwhile!

What makes you think public school teachers in AZ (or most places) don't have a pension program?

I have been with Facebook for years, without any problem. People kept telling me LinkedIn was the ticket. A flood of scum. I have used it to retrieve contact info for people I already knew. DICE was once good, and my BIL said the same several years ago, when looking for work. Coming from DC I can say headhunters are just about the lowest form of life, and while I paid some bills with temp agency work, it was usually just enough to keep me from getting a better job, and the same jobs as a direct hire were always better.

Executive search firms seem to love scouring LinkedIn. I’ve gotten some really interesting offers over the years that way. IMO, it definitely pays to have a profile out there. You never know who may be looking for someone with your skills and experience.

Monster is worthless any more. So is careerbuilder. Dice isn’t what it used to be either. Ladders isn’t worth the fee.

LinkedIn can be ok. I think Indeed is the best one right now.

Offers or just emails from executive search firms? I receive a ton of mass emails from executive search firms about open positions but these are going out to many people and are not "offers".

I get targeting messages directed at me in my inbox.

Social media can either make you or break you. Those who are seeking employment (especially white collar professional jobs) need to be extremely careful about what they post on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Employers not only do background checks, but many of them view would be employees' social media accounts as well. Any kind of posts that are considered to be distasteful (photos that are sexually oriented, or contain nudity, body tattoos) can be instant rejections. Even negative comments or controversial political statements which employers might find offensive can lower your chances of being hired.

Everyone is so quick to say Linkedin, but I have yet to find anything useful about that site. I have never met anyone in real life that got any benefit from it, honestly.

Depending on what you are looking for, try ZipRecruiter.com and Indeed.com. I still get calls about my resume on Careerbuilder, too, though it's not as good as it once was.

My previous job was found on Craig's List, believe it or not!
