This is still very true. Like most all Phoenix suburbs, relatively safe but also incredibly boring.

Default Decision made!

Just wanted to get back on this thread and thank everyone for the information! We returned from our trip to AZ and everything went a lot better than we imagined.

We saw a few places in Peoria and Glendale and really liked them, though one was just a bit out of our price range and the other, well...I didn’t like the attitude of the leasing agents, (that’s important to me if I’m going to be, in a sense, living with them.) Also looked at 1 apartment in Chandler and 1 in Scottsdale/Paradise Valley.

Those who mentioned it, you were spot on about the McCormick Ranch area! We ultimately ended up falling in love with the Camden San Paloma Apartments in Scottsdale and everything about them.
Everything we need is within walking distance of that complex, the staff was friendly, (even discovered one of the property managers was from a Chicago suburb!) The area is beyond gorgeous and not too far from the family, but far enough that they won’t want to visit every single day. Lol!
We prefer the renting route for now, for the more communal and sociability factor, amenities, etc. Plus, my husband has a 2nd job in leasing, so he’s networking with the Camden Property bunch, possibly may have a spot with them in the future. We will have plenty of time in this year to get a sense of where we’d like to buy. We’ll save buying for after the lease is up.

It was a sad thing we had to come back home, but we are motivated now more than ever to try to get there sooner, rather than later.

So, thanks again for all your advice (especially you, Wase! I still owe you a coffee!) We are very excited to call AZ home very soon, and pretty much are already there, at least mentally.

Enjoy your week, everyone!

When I'm dining with someone who knows the language I'll let them do the ordering.

Another place I enjoy is Yupha's Thai Kitchen, a couple miles away at McClintock and Elliot.
Thank you! I’m sure we will check that place out, as we often go on “cultural journeys” to interesting restaurants.
