there wont be any cheaper insurance for you until you are 23 or 26, or get married...

Funny you asked, I'm 20 too and just got a quote from Geico for about $634 for 6 months for my Chevy Sonic...you may want to call them and ask what discounts you qualify for, I think they try to meet you halfway. Progressive was the next cheapest for me at about $720, so I'd recommend them too.

Also I'm single and it's just myself, I do have a Goodyear address though. That seems really high, is it going to be just you on your policy?

How do you exactly negotiate a lower rate?

This rate is for me being under my Dad's policy, $915 for the car(2010 corolla) and $500 for me.

You dont know what kind of car he is trying to insure, nor do you know his driving record, so any comparison to your rate is meaningless..

[quote=DTWtoPHX;51915176]From what I know you kinda have to run through each line of coverage with them. I was told if you aren't a homeowner or own a bunch of stuff you're better with less coverage, which means a lower price. They can go over all of the specifics with you. Also, if you're a student they throw in discounts just to make a sale. I'm sure a Corolla is good, my Sonic is a 2012. Also, try getting a quote by yourself to see if the price will change, because your parent's driving record affects your price too.

They discussed education discount that i meet, so the quote i was given includes the discounts. I guess i can go over line by line for a lower price.

Coverage is another differentiator

When I was 20 I had a brand new 2 door black car and I was paying $400 a month, clean history. That went down when I got married at 21 and again every few years after that. Right now, 33, I'm in a 2018 midsized Mazda suv and I'm at $95 a month on that, wife and I, which is $570 on 6 months. Never had an accident and last speeding ticket was over 9 years ago and I've got my home insured with them for that discount.

I love state farm and I've been there for almost 15 years now. I shop around from time to time and no one can come close to what I've got with State farm.
