I agree with most of the advice above. 85016 and 85018 should be safe bets. If you want something a bit more urban, downtown and uptown will give you tons of bars and restaurants within close proximity.

Another vote to stay in a temp place and physically visit your choices before leasing anything. Places that looked good online weren't so hot when I actually visited, and places that didn't photograph so well were nicer than expected.

You also need to get a feel for the traffic if you will be working standard office hours - that may limit your choices.

For a temp location, check out Studio 6 on Wendler Ave. It's just off of I-10 and Baseline and should be fairly convenient to west Mesa (I live in NW Mesa). I'm a single female and I stayed there Sept-Dec of last year (with cats) and had no problems. Quiet, good neighborhood, budget friendly and convenient to grocery stores, major highways, restaurants, etc.
