The area between Camelback Rd and Northern Ave (west of 67th Ave) is a buffer between the Maryvale section of Phoenix and the southernmost part of Peoria. Most of that buffer zone is part of the city of Glendale.

As far as I know, no part of Peoria is anything like Maryvale ... although the sections along Grand Avenue tend to be less desirable. South Peoria is older, but still generally middle class. It's when you get into south Glendale and west Phoenix that things really go downhill. What gets me is there seems to be no ambition to improve these areas.
